About Ishinomaki

石巻 Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture in north eastern Japan.

I lived in Ishinomaki for 5 months of 2012, the first half working on my own public art installation called Light Projection Ceremony, interactive light projections onto a tsunami damaged wooden church powered by solar energy system installed onsite. The second half, living with a local family I got to know the streets, mountains, rivers, shrines, cafe’s and people of this city, which was devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, but is on the road towards rebuilding itself, with the ongoing support from many Japanese and foreigners alike.
